Tesco Brand Guarantee Terms and Conditions

What do I need to do to participate in Tesco Brand Guarantee?
  1. Simply go into any Tesco Extra, Superstore or Metro, or shop online at tesco.com/groceries and purchase 10 or more Different Products, including at least one Comparable Branded Grocery Product.
  2. If the total cost of the Comparable Branded Grocery Products in your shop, i.e., your Branded Shop, would have been cheaper at Asda, Morrisons or Sainsbury’s, we’ll take the difference between Tesco’s price and our cheapest competitor’s price off your bill before you pay, up to a maximum of £20. So, if Asda was £3 cheaper, Morrisons was £2 cheaper and Sainsbury’s was £1 cheaper than Tesco, we would take £3 off your bill.
  3. We’ll match your Branded Shop at the till, or on the day of picking if you shop online and choose home delivery or to Click+Collect. Your Brand Guarantee receipt will show you:
    1. if Tesco was cheaper than Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s, the amount you saved on your Branded Shop;
    2. if Tesco was more expensive than Asda, Morrisons or Sainsbury’s, the amount we took off your bill before you paid; or
    3. that your Branded Shop was the same price at Tesco and the cheapest of Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
  4. Our Get My Results Tool at tesco.com/brandguarantee will show you how we worked out your results. Results are available for 28 days from the date on your receipt. It will:
    1. give you a breakdown of the price comparison on your Branded Shop, product by product; and
    2. tell you if a product was not matched, e.g. because none of our three competitors sell a Comparable Branded Grocery Product.
Don’t forget to keep your receipt so that you can enter your transaction number into the Get My Results Tool.
How does Tesco compare prices against competitors?
  1. Brand Guarantee compares the total cost of your Branded Shop against the total cost of the same shop at Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
  2. We use price data collected daily by an independent agency from our competitors’ websites in multiple UK locations, just in case their online prices aren’t consistent across the UK. However, there are a few exceptions:
    1. In Scotland, alcohol prices and promotions are compared against Asda, Morrisons and Sainsburys’ Scottish prices. Morrisons’ alcohol prices are checked twice per week in 3 different Scottish stores because Morrisons do not sell alcohol online in Scotland.
    2. In Northern Ireland, we don’t compare against Morrisons because they don’t have stores there.
  3. If our competitors’ prices are different in some of the locations we check, we compare against the price found in the highest number of locations; or if our competitors’ prices are different in each of the locations we check, we compare against the cheapest competitor price found across the locations.
  4. If we cannot check Asda, Morrisons or Sainsbury's prices daily for any reason, e.g. because a product is out of stock, we will compare against the latest price data we have for up to one week. After one week, we will not compare that product until the competitor’s price data is available again.
  5. For Tesco employees, the Brand Guarantee price comparison will be made before your Privilegecard discount is applied.
What are the restrictions?
  1. Tesco Brand Guarantee applies in Tesco Extra, Superstore and Metro stores and online at tesco.com/groceries. It does not apply in Tesco Express stores, Tesco Petrol Filling Stations or to Tesco businesses that do not sell groceries, e.g. Tesco Direct (including F&F), Tesco Wine by the Case, Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile.
  2. Tesco Brand Guarantee includes Comparable Branded Grocery Products only. It excludes Tesco own-label, non-grocery and some other Excluded Products.
  3. The maximum Brand Guarantee deduction is £20, so e.g. if your Branded Shop would have been £26 cheaper at Asda, Morrisons or Sainsbury’s, we will deduct £20 off the total cost of your shop before you pay.
  4. 13. Tesco Brand Guarantee compares what you buy at Tesco on the date of purchase in-store, or on the day of picking if you shop online and choose home delivery or to Click+Collect. This includes price cuts and most promotions on Branded Products. For example, we match:
    1. Multibuys – including ‘3 for 2’, (where the product base prices are the same), ‘buy one get one free’, ‘buy 2 for £3’. However, because we only compare what you actually buy, you must have bought the correct number of units for us to match with Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's multibuy promotions. For example, if Asda is running a 3 for 2 offer on Coca Cola 2 litre and you only buy 2 of these products in your shop, the single unit price of Coca Cola 2 litre at Asda will be used in our price comparison.
    2. Price cuts – e.g. a discount from 99p to 50p.
    3. Multiple promotions on the same range – this is when a competitor has more than one offer on the same product running at the same time, e.g. a customer can buy either ‘2 for £3’ or ‘5 for £6’.
However, there are some promotions that we don’t match including because the promotion may apply to a mixture of Branded Products and non-branded products, or because of technical limitations with our pricing systems, e.g. the promotion is store-specific, or because product base prices within a promotion are different. Promotions we don't match include:
    1. Linksaves e.g. meal deals, or when you buy cheese and get crackers free.
    2. Multi-buy deals, e.g. '3 for 2', 'buy one get one free' or ‘buy 2 get 2nd half price’, where the base prices of the individual products in the promotion are not the same.
    3. Coupons and vouchers, including promotions that apply to a whole shop, e.g. £5 off £40.
    4. Category wide promotions, e.g. buy 6 bottles of wine and get 25% off.
    5. Any alcohol product promotion where matching would result in us selling below the minimum legal price (in line with our legal obligations and Alcohol).
    6. Clearance lines, e.g. ‘reduced to clear £1‘.
    7. % extra free promotions (because the products are different sizes and so not Comparable Products).
    8. Bonus loyalty points promotions, e.g. bonus Nectar card promotions.
  5. Tesco Brand Guarantee has a Fair Use policy. This means:
    1. If you purchase more than 10 of the same Comparable Branded Grocery Products in one transaction, we reserve the right to make comparisons in relation to the first 10 products only.
    2. Returns can still be made in accordance with our Returns Policy. However, we reserve the right to take into account any Tesco Brand Guarantee benefit when refunding or exchanging products. This does not affect your statutory rights.
  6. Where we suspect that any false or fraudulent claims have been made or someone is abusing the spirit of Tesco Brand Guarantee and/or breaching the Fair Use policy, we reserve the right to refuse to check out your shop.
  7. We reserve the right to amend or withdraw Tesco Brand Guarantee at any time without advance notice.
  1. On rare occasions we might experience a technical error which means we can’t instantly deduct the difference before you pay in-store or online. If this happens, please:
    1. enter your receipt or order details at: https://secure.tesco.com/BrandGuarantee; or
    2. contact customer services on 0800 50 5555 with your receipt or online delivery email,
and we’ll give you a voucher for the difference, which you can use on your next Tesco shop.
  2. Tesco Brand Guarantee vouchers can be redeemed against your grocery shopping in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in Extra, Superstore, Metro and Express stores (or their attached Petrol Filling Stations, but not against fuel purchases) or online http://www.tesco.com/groceries. It doesn’t matter where you did your original shop.
  3. To use your Tesco Brand Guarantee voucher in-store, simply present your voucher at the checkout. If you have received a voucher via email, you must print it out to use it in-store.
  4. To use your Tesco Brand Guarantee voucher online, simply enter the voucher code at http://www.tesco.com/groceries during the checkout process, before you click “Confirm payment”.
  5. You have 28 days to use the voucher from the day after it is issued. The validity period is printed on the voucher.
  6. There are a few other restrictions you should be aware of when using your Tesco Brand Guarantee vouchers:
    1. Vouchers can only be used once and can only be redeemed against a total spend of greater than or equal to the value of the voucher, e.g. a £1 voucher is fine to use on a £10 shop. However, you cannot use a £10 voucher on a £1 shop.
    2. Tesco Brand Guarantee vouchers can only be applied to grocery purchases, meaning there are some products that you cannot use your Tesco Brand Guarantee voucher on, including (but not limited to) fuel, lottery, tobacco or tobacco-related products, infant formula, café, pharmacy, gift cards, saving stamps, E-top-ups, stamps, opticians, travel money, Tesco Bank, Tesco Direct, Tesco Wine by the Case, Tesco Clothing (including F&F), mobile phone products and general merchandise.
    3. We cannot accept any copied, damaged or defaced Tesco Brand Guarantee vouchers. The vouchers are also not for resale, publication or transfer and remain the property of Tesco Stores Ltd.
  7. Tesco Brand Guarantee vouchers remain the property of Tesco Stores Limited and we reserve all of our rights, including to withdraw or refuse to accept these vouchers at any time.
  8. Use of Brand Guarantee vouchers are subject to these full terms and conditions.
